Patina

I'm BACK. Photos and sketches from my travels in Europe will be arriving soon. Until then have a look at some earlier work of mine from 2010. This series, entitled Windows, is made up of recycled pieces of steel found in a dumpster, originally they were components of a sculpture. I used rust as the primary form of paint, spitting on them, leaving them outside, using salt water, and polishing away certain areas. In addition I used enamel and spray paints to give them some different colors, and the final touch was giving them a linear border with sharpie. I enjoyed working in this medium, in particular for its symbology: steel is one of the purest symbols of technology, while rust is mother nature's attempt to reclaim the elements and take them back into the earth. The Windows are meant to evoke a feeling of the future, as if looking out into the cosmos through the window of some space traveling vessel of the future.
